Vitrified Just Like Our Grown Up Pottery!

A wonderful memory from my childhood was playing with my very own Tea Set that Santa brought me when I was 6 or 7 years old.  Lots of pretend with my dolls and imaginary friend named Judy.  The blue color, even then was one of my favorites.   Probably around the boy crazy stage or when I painted my room bright green and pink, I must have lost interest because I didn’t remember what had happened to it after that time.  Figured it got lost or broken from one of my younger siblings playing with it and didn’t really think much about it…until many years later it was returned to me with a few tears and laughter…and remember when moments.

My sister Charlene and I were married, living in Gemany with our military husbands.  We were getting ready to return to the States while their stay was just beginning.  We had a few short months to spend together and on our very first meeting , Charlene asked me if I remember my little blue willow tea set?  I said yes, but didn’t know whatever happened to it.  She reminded me that one day, when I was feeling particularly grown up, I sold her my tea set for 25 cents!   She said that she had carried it with her through many a move across the miles and ocean, tenderly sharing it with her children but making sure it was well kept care of…because one day she would give it back to me.  I remember the moment so well…I was pregnant with our first son when she asked me if  I knew what ever happened to my little tea set…and  with my answer, she told me I could have it back if I would give her a quarter!   So now it has made many a move with my family and still has it’s special place on a shelf in our “blue room”.  While my set will stay out of the hands of the little ones, I can’t wait to have more grandkids so that my Longaberger Tea Set gets put to use.  Much more sturdy and meant to be used…it  too will be making memories for many a child out there.
